Something new. I’m learning vector graphics. That is to say I’m doing 6 color T-shirt art on one of my favorite subjects! Sports cars! Here’s a first rough effort of one of my favorite cars of all time. The Lotus Europa!
BTW I am saving my money to get this car. I once had one for a while. Nothing like it. I was surprised to find I could get one resonably especially if it need restoration. This is now on my bucket list before I kick it. I want this steering wheel with the Lotus emblem staring back at me as I drive down the road with a bug toothed smile once more.
Lots of stuff this week from mask making, molds, slot car bodies and more. That’s the way I like it. I could never be bored!
So yesterday I laid up the fiberglass epoxy mother mold for side one of the Laser Blast figure. Today I’ll flip this over, remove the clay and cast up side two with silicone. This will be followed by another round of epoxy glass on Monday and that finishes the mold.
Next up I molded the first half of the head in Silicone. No need for a mother mold, just solid silicone works fine at this thickness. Side two gets cast today and that mold is finished.
I also cast the hands. They are just dipped in silicone on aluminium rods. Today I’ll slice the silicone with a hobby knife and release the masters.
Monday I’ll have all the molds ready to run the first figure in resin Tuesday.
Remember the car body? A 1959 Cooper formula one car. It is a 1/32 slot car I plan to build from scratch and market the body kit. We” I have been picking at it bit by bit and the first pass is nearly done.
From this master I’ll pull a mold in silicone, pour a resin cast solid body master and then tool the master with all the scribe lines and details. From this I make the final mold for the production run. It’s always easier to do the detail work if the body master is made of one consistent material.
Today I’m also painting two masks. That red and black guy from those family movies we all know and love and this Outer Limits mask we also all know and love!
That’s right he’s here! I stumbled over this mold that was finished and never cast with rubber. It most be 5 years or more this was done. This is the first cast ever out of the mold. I have some patching to do in the mold to get rid of the bubbles and then I’ll cast a second. But this one can be cleaned up and painted.
Love this character and I always will. Can’t wait to paint this up and wear it! Jokes are coming along with my bathrobe and swords.
Laser Blast body mold has been started. First half of the silicone jacket. Today I’ll layup a fiberglass epoxy mother mold. Tomorrow the second half of the mold in silicone followed by another epoxy glass mother mold.
Today I’ll also start molding the head and the hands followed by the Amulet.
I start the molds today on the body, hands, and head. All seperate molds. The sculpture is done and any work needed to point it up is best done when it’s cast in resin and the model finished.
Molds will be two parts and made in silicone and the mother molds in epoxy resin.
Meanwhile I got the last Chameleon mask out of the current mold. Time to make a new mold off the master. However the cast I got is nice and thick and will clean up and paint well.
The pictures tell the story. The Laser Blast sculpture and body are nearing the finish line. I hope to start molding Wednesday. Then I’ll pour up two and start the assembly and finish.Poured up another Out Limits mask yesterday and it comes out of the mold today.
