Orangutan mold is made!

Yesterday I finished the Orangutan sculpture and I made the mold. The mold came out very well and we are ready Monday to start casting the first run of orders.

I got  the hair ordered from Burman’s and I’m going to be using the Golden Blonde which is the crepe that was used to overlay the lace pieces. I may mix in some of the orange too.

I cast up some more Gorilla’s which will all get painted and haired soon.

Next! This life cast will be mounted to a back plate. And starting next week I will sculpt and make the Gorilla prosthetic followed by the Orangutan.

Still going ape

It was Monday and back to apes. Some of you may be getting bored with this by now but many more or going ape over the SNG Studio apes masks masks and products. Soon I’ll reach a point where there won’t be any more new items to offer and we’ll build some spaceships and do some Star Trek masks. Sound good?

Yesterday I poured more rubber for mask orders. Sculpted a great deal more on the Orangutan. In fact he’s nearly done. I may make that mold today!

In addition to all that I dug out the apes prosthetic mold for the chimp. It is ready to start running to run foam in. Urethane foam this time for reuse and longevity. These should last years and be reusable.

They will have better paint jobs on them. This one just has the basic color on it without shading.

It comes on the vacuum formed life cast just as the originals were kept on and make a great collectors item as well as being used for cosplay.

I’ll be making the gorilla, and orangutan next. Last will be the full head pull over masks and a female chimp.

A great day at the studio as always. See ya tomorrow.

Setup Day at the FarrOut Slot Car Club

This weekend I had to take off and get some rest, relaxation and hobby time. I went to Stephen Farr Jones house for our club setup day.

A set up day is where our group gets together and socializes, shares information about setting up our cars and testing changes and mods made on Stephen’s amazing track.

I had not been there with the group in some time because of Covid and it was a lovely day of friends and cars.

I brought some of my scratch built cars and some of the cars we race in the various classes. My little Cooper ran quite well as did the Jag. But the car that ran the very best was the Kurtis Midget.

Additionally I ran and tested the Revo Slot Porsche, MR Slot Mazda test car, and Sideways 320i BMW. The BMW was a clear winner. What a smooth, good handling and high performance car with no vices.

I also bought the Osterero Dream Slot and that was a spectacular performer. We don’t race this class but it was fun to run.

Yesterday’s blahs…

Wednesday I had my second covid booster and yesterday Mary and both felt it. It was a struggle but I got the last two apes masks shipped of the orders I have been back logged on. I also cast up all the parts for a X-15 kit that goes out today.

And I started casting rubber for the second wave of gorilla masks. By 2:30 we decided to pack it in and go how to rest. Both of us feel better today.

I’ll be back to the Orangutan today for more sculpting and to tell the story about how I rescued all the original planet of the apes molds from the bulldozer! The video will be on Youtube this weekend.

Thank all of you for the orders! It’s going to be a busy week next week!

Dr. Zaius on the way

I did find time today after I finished off the last two masks orders.

In an hour I had the basic correct shape as you see in these pictures. He is coming to life and over the next few days I’ll finish the sculpture, mold the sculpture, and make the first mask.

I find this all very exciting and in all my years in my career I never made a Dr. Zaius.

Zire will be next.
