Got the base started for the Battlestar Galactica. I’m pleased this is a nice model and a great design that has scale for days.It will finish next week.
I also started on the Enterprise E. Also a client build. And I did some tests with just a light blocking flat black primer. I then scribed off some of the windows and lighted them from behind and the windows lit up well without any drilling, filing, and filling with transparent glue. What a time saver.
The Chameleon mask will ship Monday. I generally wait a few days after painting to make sure the paint binds well.
Wednesday was all about finishing a mask. I shot a video of the whole process of finishing from prepping to putting the eye lashes on. That’s right the Chameleon from the Outer Limits had eye lashes! I have been made fun of in the past by the great social media experts about this. So much for the expertise if anyone bothers to pay attention they have them.
But I digress. The mask came out beautifully and I painted it to look black and white. They just look better that way because know one except Fred Philips and the crew ever saw them in color. We just saw the old B&W show.
Then for stress relief I went home and spent some time at the building table in my back room working next to my track on this slot car to be. Not a bad day at all. Thank you universe. Or whatever. Just thanks.
Yesterday was a repeat of Monday. I got more work done on the Battlestar and she’s nearly done. All closed up and light.
I still need to finish the nacelles but before I do I have a few light leaks to fix. Then I will touch up the paint and put the few decals on the model that came in the kit. I’ll make some kind of base for the model and she’ll be mounted on a brass rod.
Today I’ll paint the Chameleon mask and cover that in the weekly video.
Later this week Mary and I will start working with the Laser Cutter and experiment.
Monday was great. We new tires for the daily car(remember I had a blowout on the freeway Saturday. No fun there). Mary got our taxes done. And I got all the lighting installed in the Battlestar and I’m on my way to completing the model and starting 2 more.
I pulled a very nice casting of the Chameleon out of the mold that I’ll paint this week after it dries out a couple of days.
When I got home I did some more work on my 1/24 scale scratch build slot car for the upcoming races in May. This class of racing being DM3 you have to make the car from scratch with the exception of the body. You use modified kits. However I suppose if you wanted to you could scratch build that two as lone as it was hard body resin.
The entire frame is made of brass and piano wire. Everything has to be hand measured, marked, scribed, and hand cut with a dremel and a cutoff wheel. Then you have to solder it all together. Sounds easy enough but it’s not. But I am getting there and getting there well.
Quiet day yesterday working on the Battlestar Galactica. We had to leave early for a friend’s wedding so we didn’t get to spend any time with the new laser cutter. Next week will be the week for that and I look forward to it. It’s all very exciting.
We have worked out the whole PayPal mess. We are using Stripe now. We never did recover our money but at least they aren’t after us for their fantasy funds. We are done with them.
I plan to pour a mask today, our first order since all this happened. And we will have Stripe buttons up on our store pages this weekend. It will take awhile. Stripe goes directly to our bank. No hanky panky and no ATM cards that can get hacked.
Today I’ll be working on the Battlestar all day. I have a bunch of supplies inbound to start working on two commissions to build an Enterprise E and a K-7 space station both from Star Trek. Expect some model building video for a while.
Tomorrow I make the great escape to do some more slot car racing with the Farrout Slot Car Club I’m a proud member of to have some stress relief and fun with a bunch of gearhead crazies.
We had a fantastic day yesterday with our dear friend Mark Helmick that helped us set up our new xTool D1 Pro Laser Cutter. It all went very well and there is a video I’ll post soon of the unboxing, build, and the cutter in action cutting out our first parts. Thanks to all our supporters at Buy Me a Coffee who made our wishlist come true!
I also have been working on the TOS Battlestar Galactica. I have the hull parts painted and I have assembled the top half of the hull and started placing and hooking up electronics for the lighting. All of this work will be covered in this week’s upcoming SNG Studio Weekly Update show.
Last two mask orders will ship today. My boxes showed up today.
Thanks to Jamie Ventura who bought a Chameleon Mask from us this morning on Buy Me a Coffee!
